Ash Wednesday Service
Date: Wednesday, March 01, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Worship Center
In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count). The observance of Lent encourages us to think more deeply about the amazing sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross. There is no fixed way to journey through this season. Some Christians use fasting, repentance, moderation and self-denial as particular emphases during Lent. Certainly comparisons can be drawn between Lenten practices and Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness.
During many Ash Wednesday services, including ours, pastors or lay people use ashes to apply a cross to the foreheads of worshipers. The ashes remind us of our mortality and our struggle with sin, and the cross reminds us of the hope of redemption that is found only in Christ.
Koala Club and B.L.A.S.T. will meet during Ash Wednesday Service. Child care will be provided for Infants through age 3 in the Nursery.
